Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

FolkyTalk is an app and website operated by Mikaris Tech (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

2. What FolkyTalk does

FolkyTalk lets people review what their relationship with someone they know feels like. A reviewer picks a person, answers a short set of questions on a scale from “never” to “always”, and can add a private comment. The reviewed person receives anonymous, combined results and an AI-written summary. This policy explains which information that requires, and how we look after it.

3. Information we collect

Your account

• Your name, username and, if you add one, your profile picture.
• Your email address and/or mobile phone number, which you use to sign in with a one-time code.
• Your preferred language.

People you choose to review

When you start a review, your phone’s own contact picker opens. We never access or upload your address book. Only the single contact you choose is shared with us: their name as saved in your phone, and their phone number. We use the number to find that person’s FolkyTalk account or, if they are not on FolkyTalk yet, to create a pending profile so that the review can reach them and they can claim it later.

You can also find someone by searching for their FolkyTalk name. To review them, you must then enter their phone number or email address. We use it only to check that it matches their account, so that only people who really know someone can review them.

Reviews

• Reviews you write: the person reviewed, your relationship (friend, colleague, family or other), how long you have known them, your answers, the time you spent on each question, and your optional private comment.
• Reviews about you: the reviews other people write about you. You only ever see them combined, never one by one and never with a name.
• Your self-review, if you rate how you think you come across.

Search activity

When you search for other FolkyTalk users, we process the words you type and the results we return, to answer your search and to detect misuse.

Technical information

• Your IP address, when you register and each time the app talks to our servers.
• An approximate location (country or region) derived from your IP address. We never collect your precise location.
• Device and app information: operating system, app version, language and time of each request.

Messages you send us

If you write to support, we keep your message and our reply.

This website

The website has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking pixels. Our hosting and our network provider (Cloudflare) process your IP address and technical request data to deliver and secure the site. The contact forms use Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks technical signals from your browser to block spam bots. See our Cookie Policy.

4. How we use it

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you by automated means alone.

5. How our AI summaries work

To write a summary of how people experience someone, we send an AI service the combined answers for that person and the private comments reviewers wrote. Comments are sent as plain text only: without names, user identifiers or phone numbers, and shuffled so they cannot be matched to a reviewer. The AI is instructed never to quote or closely paraphrase a comment, to mention a theme only when more than one person raised it, and to leave out anything that could identify someone. The AI service acts on our behalf as a service provider.

Comments are never displayed, anywhere, to anyone: not to the person reviewed, not to other users, and not in any link or notification. People only ever see the AI-written summaries.

6. What other people can see

• The person you review learns that someone reviewed them, never who. Their results are combined from everyone who reviewed them. Your private comment is never shown to them, or to anyone else.
• Other users can find you by your name and username, and see your profile picture. Your results stay private unless you choose to share or publish them.
• Nobody can see the list of people you reviewed.

7. Who we share information with

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only with:

• Service providers working on our behalf, under contract: hosting and databases, email, SMS and messaging delivery (for sign-in codes and review notifications), AI processing, and network security (Cloudflare).
• Authorities, when the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety. We always report child sexual abuse material (see our Child Safety Standards).
• A successor, if FolkyTalk is merged or sold, under the same protections. We will tell you first.

8. International transfers

Our providers may process information outside your country. When they do, we use recognised safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, so your information keeps the same level of protection.

9. How long we keep it

• Account information: as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete it within 30 days.
• Reviews you wrote: when you delete your account, they are detached from you: nothing links them to you any more. They stay, anonymous, as part of the other person’s results.
• Private comments: kept with the review they belong to, for as long as that review exists. They are never shown to anyone.
• Pending profiles (people reviewed who have not joined): kept so the person can claim their results. They can ask us to delete it at any time.
• Server logs: deleted automatically after 90 days.
• Support messages: kept in our support inbox until we delete them.

We keep information longer only when the law requires it, or to deal with a safety report or legal claim.

10. Security

Information is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Access to personal information is limited to the people who need it. You sign in with one-time codes, so there is no password to steal. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires. To report a vulnerability, write to query@folkytalk.com.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to:

• access the information we hold about you, and receive a copy;
• correct it;
• delete it (see Delete your account and data);
• object to or restrict how we use it;
• take it to another service (portability);
• withdraw consent where we rely on it;
• complain to your data protection authority.

Use the contact form or write to query@folkytalk.com. We may ask you to confirm you own the account. We answer within one month.

Were you reviewed, but never joined? You can ask us to delete your pending profile and stop all future messages: use the opt-out form.

12. Age

FolkyTalk is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and FolkyTalk must not be used to review a minor. If you believe a minor is using FolkyTalk, tell us and we will remove the account.

13. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will tell you in the app or by email before the change applies. The date at the top shows the last update.
